City approves sale of Northfield News building to Loon Liquors
Co-owners Simeon Rossi and Mark Schiller to move their entire operations to the downtown facility by early 2025
Video intro (1 minute, 17 seconds):
Last week, the Northfield City Council approved the sale of the Northfield News building to Simeon Rossi and Mark Schiller, co-owners of Loon Liquors and friends since their days at Northfield High School.
The City of Northfield purchased the property in June 2022 for $1.2 million, originally intending to use it as a temporary location for the municipal liquor store while constructing a new one. Loon Liquors was initially interested in buying the downtown post office but had to look elsewhere due to time constraints and urgent capacity needs. Loon will pay approximately $996,000 for the building, and the City will use tax abatement to cover the difference from the original purchase price. Schiller and Rossi plan to offer distillery tours and focus on tourism as a main attraction. They hope to complete the move into the new location and begin operations downtown by early 2025.
