Northfield Voices: Join our community journalism project
Become a citizen journalist or join our part-time editorial team
As a public service community journalism initiative, we want Northfield.org to become a place where Northfielders know they can regularly see a wide variety of their fellow citizens authoring stories and opinion pieces about local news and issues that affect us. We seek submissions from anyone in the community and will curate the best for publishing here each week.
We also plan to create a diverse team of 6-12 part-time editorial contractors to ensure we have new, engaging, and informative content on our Substack each week, including relevant personal stories, opinion pieces, and local news analysis.
As a contractor, you'll work closely with our editorial leadership to:
Create two or more original posts per month
Use multimedia like audio, short-form video, and interactive quizzes
Engage with readers through time-limited discussions on your posts
Curate and edit submissions from community members
Participate in shaping our editorial strategy and voice
We're looking for candidates with:
Proven writing skills
Familiarity with Northfield and local issues
Comfort with basic multimedia content creation
Passion for community journalism and civic engagement
What We Offer:
Competitive compensation
Flexible, remote, part-time work
Collegiality with our editorial team that meets regularly face-to-face
Training and mentorship
The opportunity to be part of an innovative community journalism project
We're excited to build this community resource together. We'd love to hear from you if you're passionate about public service journalism and want to help inform and engage your fellow citizens. Contact us if you have an interest in either role: citizen journalism or editorial contractor.
